Sweet & Smoky Spice Mix. This DIY Sweet and Smoky Spice Mix is delightfully fragrant and tasty on just about anything and everything!
Sweet & Smoky Spice Mix
When we were living in Germany, we were devoted fans of the Hello Fresh Meal boxes. Did you know Germany is where it originated? True story! We used it briefly once we moved back to the U.S. as well but found the quality and variety didn’t quite compare to the German boxes.
Several of the recipes featured a sweet and smoky spice mix that we just loved, though, and I missed cooking with it. I couldn’t find anything quite like it in our local grocery store, but after some trial and error, I created my DIY version. It is delicious on so many things!
USING THE Mix
Here are a few of our favorite ways to use this spice mix.
- Rib Rub. If our kids get to pick what’s for dinner, they ALWAYS ask for Daddy’s Smoked Ribs, and this mix makes a diving rib rub.
- Sweet & Smoky Sweet Potatoes. This is hands-down my favorite way to use it. Peel and chop sweet potatoes into 1/2-inch pieces. Toss with olive or avocado oil and this spice mix, to taste. Roast at 400 degrees until soft and beginning to get brown and caramelized on the edges, usually about 30-40 minutes.
- Pulled Pork Bowls. We love bowls and make these with any leftover sweet potatoes. It’s so yummy. We usually toss together brown rice, pulled pork, the sweet potatoes, corn, avocado, and sautéed red onions. Drizzle with BBQ, salsa, or whatever you have on hand.
- Mini Meatloaves. I use this spice mix to make easy and yummy mini meatloaves that aren’t your grannie’s meatloaf. Recipe coming to the blog soon!
